Description
Under the immediate direction and supervision of the Police Captain or their designee, performs highly specialized computer and administrative work in support of the Melbourne International Police Department (MAPD). Incumbent is primarily responsible for supervising the badging office and for processing security badges and security access monitoring, working within the scope of established policies and procedures. Position requires independent work, discretion and diplomatic skill in explaining policies and working effectively with Airport personnel, local, state and federal agencies, corporations, tenants, and visitors. Works to assist and support other staff members as directed and/or required.
Examples of Duties
- Oversees the daily operations of the badging office and provides direction and support to badging specialists and volunteers in the performance of their duties.
- Reviews and evaluates the performance of badging office personnel, providing coaching and guidance as needed.
- Updates and maintains required documentation, including drafting, revising, and distributing the Airport Badging Manual to ensure compliance with TSA, Customs, and Airport Security Program (ASP) requirements.
- Oversees the transition to the new badging system, ensuring that all personnel data is accurately coded and maintained to support secure access control for airport badges and restricted doors.
- Assists badge applicants with enrolling in the Security Sensitive Information (SSI) online training portal and ensures training is completed in accordance with TSA and Airport Security Program (ASP) requirements.
- Serves as the Public Records Representative for the police department, ensuring proper handling and timely response to all public records requests.
- Assists with administrative duties for the Chief of Police and Captain, including file maintenance, correspondence, and records management.
- Maintains and updates MAPD records and filing systems to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinates with TSA and U.S. Customs & Border Protection to ensure proper implementation of badge-related requirements and documentation.
- Serves as a Trusted Agent under the Airport Security Program and assists the Airport Security Coordinator (ASC) with managing the ASP.
- Supervises the submission of TSA-mandated audits and ensures all related reporting requirements are met accurately and on time.
- Represents MAPD in meetings, briefings, and interagency coordination sessions as assigned, and provides guidance to management on badging-related issues.
- Prepares written and verbal correspondence with MAA tenants, employees, and customers regarding badging procedures and compliance.
- Assists badging specialists in administering and operating the security badge system and other related computer applications.
- Reviews and enforces internal controls for badge application processing to ensure data integrity and security compliance.
- Maintains the highest level of discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism in all interactions, whether verbal or written, in support of MAPD and other Airport departments and personnel.
- Performs additional tasks and manages projects as assigned by leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Organizational Management or Criminal Justice
- Minimum of three (3) of experience in highly responsible high-volume customer service experience utilizing a computer database or a combination of education, training, and/or work experience equal to or greater than the requirements listed above as determined by Airport Human Resources.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Previous experience in a civilian law enforcement position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license
- Must pass the required FAA security background investigation.
- Must attend an FAA Security Class and successfully pass with a minimum score of 70.
- Must pass a pre-hire drug screen and random alcohol and drug testing
- Must pass a federal fingerprint-based criminal history background check.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of or an ability to learn rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing security and safety at the Melbourne International Airport as states in the Airport Security Manual.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn the geographical layout, organization, and operation of the security program and security system at the Melbourne International Airport.
- Ability to learn TSA, FAA and FDLE rules and regulations routinely utilized in the operation, maintenance and development of an Airport as it relates to airport security.
- Knowledge of current office procedures and practices in organizing work to meet goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of business grammar and mathematics commensurate with the requirements of the work.
- Ability to plan and execute all phases of various projects with minimal supervision.
- Skilled in written and oral communications.
- Ability to create and maintain filing systems.
- Ability to speak, read and write fluent English and to understand written and oral directions.
- Ability to create and present classroom instruction using video and oral presentations.
