The City of Medford is seeking a full-time, limited-duration Communications Coordinator to support the City Manager’s Office beginning in September and continuing through approximately mid-December 2026. The assignment may be extended based on department needs and City approval.

Required Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) or more years of experience including writing, editing, and proofing of marketing materials for media relations, digital photography, and videography.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or other specific area of study as deemed applicable may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience operating audio/video equipment.
- Experience in a public sector/government environment.
Available Schedule:
- 8 hours daily, Monday - Friday
Compensation & Information on Benefits
The anticipated hiring range for the Communications Coordinator position is $36.21 (first step) to $38.02 or $39.92 (second or third step). The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, and qualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

Essential Functions of the Position:
- Recommends innovative and promotional avenues of communication for various types of media and suggests effective communication strategies to management.
- Creates regular, relevant written and multimedia content for websites, social media, e-newsletters, and other communication channels.
- Consistently attend and actively participate in City events, meetings, and activities, which may occur during or after regular work hours and on weekends.
- Supports departments with advice and assistance on communications, community relations and media relations.
- Supports Communications & Marketing Manager in responses to inquiries and complaints received from citizens and community stakeholders.
- Helps facilitate all advertising, promotions, publicity, and public outreach activities.
- Provide graphic design support for public education campaigns including creating graphics for fliers, social media posts, the City’s website, ads, etc.
- Capture photographs and create, edit, and produce video content to showcase City programs, events, and services.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This position primarily works indoors in an office setting with adequate lighting and regulated environmental conditions. Field work and travel may be required and expose the incumbent to various weather conditions and terrains. Occasional exposure to disruptive people and loud noises.
This position involves extended periods of sitting and standing with occasional pushing, pulling and lifting up to 25 pounds to operate, move and transport equipment. Requires ability to communicate verbally, to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals, and a heightened awareness of hazards in various environments when conducting field work. The safe operation of a motor vehicle is required.
