What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Instructor position at City Of McMinnville?

The City of McMinnville's Aquatic Center is in search of swim instructors. Responsibilities include teaching public swimming lessons. Applicants would perform customer service duties, have interactions with students of all ages and abilities, perform limited office operations, and limited janitorial duties.

Swim Lessons Take Place On Tuesday & Thursday Evenings, And Instructors Need To Be At Least 14 Years Of Age. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Safety

  • Prevent accidents and minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions.
  • Respond quickly to all emergency situations.
  • Comply with and enforce all policies, procedures, and regulations set by management.
  • Administer first aid/CPR as needed.
  • Provide a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer.
  • Present oneself in a professional manner at all times.
  • Complete all records and reports as required.
  • Perform janitorial, maintenance and other support duties as required.

Swim Instructor

  • Teach swimming lessons to community members of all ages and abilities.
  • Record attendance.
  • Understand lesson plans and how to teach to appropriate individual skill level.
  • Maintain a safe class setting.
  • Update parents about student progress and complete end of session skill sheets.
  • Attend required in-service and monthly training.

General Job Functions

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
  • Participate in committees when requested.
  • Maintain proficiency in job requirements which may include attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility, which may require travel.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality, data integrity, and comply with all related city, state, and federal standards related to confidentiality.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described.

Special Requirements Or Licenses

  • McMinnville Aquatic Center swim certification (must attain within three months) or other state or nationally recognized swim lesson training (new hires).
  • First Aid and CPR certification from nationally recognized authorized provider (within three months).

Working Conditions

The position requires minimal (20-40%) ability to use dexterity and fine motor skills assemble, build or repair machines or other objects. Occasional (21-50% of the time) use of office equipment. The position requires some (20-40%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work require continual speed, agility, hand eye coordination and equipment operation. The work environment has regular hazards or obstacles (40-60%). There may be some personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are somewhat uncomfortable, with moderate (40-60%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may require regular responsibility for driving.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervision of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel and may assign work to student workers.

Supervision Received

Works under the general direction of Recreation Supervisor. and the Recreation Program Coordinator.
