laborer - street department

This position requires continuous physical exertion and lifting of more than 50 lbs.

A CDL Class B is preferred for this position and is required before the employment probationary period ends.

Individual is responsible for performing manual labor and operating various trucks and equipment in clearing and maintaining City streets and rights-of-way.

Duties of this role include:

·       Performs transfer station duties, including public dumping and City trash.

·       Performs maintenance and repair work on City streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs and storm sewers.

·       Installing drainage, repairs sink holes, and fixes broken inlet boxes.

·       Assists with stump removal and trimming trees in rights-of-way and near signs and intersections, collecting and disposing of leaves during leaf collection season.

·       Assists with installation, replacement or repair of traffic lights, street signs and guardrails within the City and re-stripes City roadways, curbs, and City-owned parking lots as needed.

·       Assists in maintaining cleanliness of City streets and City-owned property.

·       Maintains road safety in winter months, clears City streets of snow and debris, and applies salt/sand to roads as needed.

·       Operates various tools in performance of duties.

·       Occasionally responds to emergencies from an off-duty status.

The individual must follow safety precautions at all times to avoid injury to self or others.

Normal working hours are Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm with occasional overtime outside of normal working hours.
