POSITION DESCRIPTION
Distinguishing Characteristics:
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assist in a variety of semi-skilled installation, maintenance and repair work to City streets, parking lots, storm drains, sewer lines; assure compliance with health and safety regulations, including traffic diversion.
Participate in the preparation of streets for paving, asphalt and concrete repair; perform asphalt patching, repaving chuck hole and crack sealing repairs; jet rod sanitary sewers, and storm drain cleaning and repair; install, construct or repair concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters; install or repair rails.
Cut, fit, lay, repair, clean and flush storm water maintenance pipes; clean fittings on lines and fire hydrants; clear brush and debris from storm drains; clean road spills.
Assist with street striping as assigned; operate spray guns and brushes to paint pedestrian crosswalks, bus stops, parking and center lines and other pavement markings according to applicable City ordinances and laws; stencil letters for curb and street pavement legends.
Assist in the lay out and measurement of parking zones, and traffic markings; mix paint to proper consistency; remove and erect street signs; clean and maintain spray equipment; install or repair guard rails.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Characteristics, uses and preparation of paving techniques and skills involved in pouring and finishing concrete.
Basic storm drain and sewer system jet rodding equipment operation and techniques.
Laws and ordinances pertaining to traffic signs and markings.
Proper methods of mixing paints to appropriate consistency.
Blueprint reading techniques.
Health and Safety Regulations.
Ability to:
Read and interpret blueprints.
Operate and maintain a variety of heavy and light power-driven street maintenance and construction equipment.
Assure compliance with health and safety regulations, including traffic diversion.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Learn department operations policies and regulations.
Observe health and safety regulations.
Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
Load equipment on trailers for transport.
Erect and work from platforms, scaffolding and ladders.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
