Starting Salary Range: $56,209.00 - $66,907.00
This position includes some weekends and/or evenings.
Under general direction, this position handles marketing and promotion for Community Services programs, events, and services. Responsibilities include creating promotional content for digital and print channels and representing the department at community events. This position also works with City departments, community organizations, and businesses to promote department programs. This is a highly visible position within the community.
EXAMPLES OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED:
- Coordinates department communications and promotional efforts through multiple channels, including social media, website, press releases, print, and email newsletters, using creative strategies to engage and connect with the public.
- Designs print and digital promotional and informational materials to communicate department news and events with the community, including catalogs, advertisements, banners, emails, and signage using Adobe Creative Suite, and coordinates the production and delivery of materials.
- Responsible for planning and execution of community outreach events and programs, including programs, events, public meetings and pop-up activities.
- Develops relationships in both the resident and business communities, including vendor relations and sponsorship management.
- Assists with development of the comprehensive department-wide marketing plan, as well as implementing marketing strategies to achieve the department's mission and vision.
- Performs ongoing website content management.
- Researches, proposes budgets, and analyzes marketing and outreach opportunities to develop plans that deliver key messaging to and build relationships with target audiences, using a variety of communication tools.
- Understands basic photography and video production to shoot, edit, and produce media for online and website content.
- Manages department representation at City and community special events via outreach booths, including planning activities, promotional opportunities, overseeing staff/volunteers, and capturing real-time content.
- Provides proactive and responsive communication to all stakeholders.
- Monitor emerging demographic, social, cultural, and recreation trends to identify opportunities for new or revised marketing of programs and services.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Advanced proficiency in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, with internal and external audiences.
- Ability to represent the department to the public and engage diverse audiences in a professional, outgoing manner.
- Ability to capture photos and videos for social media, websites, and promotional materials.
- Demonstrated proficiency in marketing and graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite.
- Advanced proficiency in managing social media platforms to maintain a consistent brand presence.
- Knowledge of how to tailor messaging and promotional strategies to diverse audiences and age groups.
- Knowledge of customer survey methods and analysis/research techniques.
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects under minimal supervision, meet deadlines, and take initiative to solve problems and make workplace improvements.
- Ability to manage vendor relationships, including recruiting and customer service.
- Working knowledge of Adobe, Microsoft, and Google Workspace applications.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, Journalism, Public Administration, or related field
- Two (2) years of work experience in leading community outreach and/or marketing and engagement activities, including but not limited to: facilitating public meetings, planning and hosting community outreach and special events, planning promotional events, and analyzing data to determine needs and demands
- Must be able to work morning, evening, and weekend hours
DESIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Advanced experience in graphic design for digital and print collateral
- Advanced experience in photography, videography, and editing software
- Experience in executing a comprehensive marketing plan, following brand standards
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:
Work is performed in a combination of office and community settings. This position regularly works outside the office to staff and support events, including time at outdoor venues and public gathering spaces, where exposure to varying weather, crowds, noise, and other environmental conditions may occur.
The position requires availability beyond standard business hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends, to support department events and programming. Work involves frequent interaction with the public, vendors, City staff, and elected officials, and requires the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain professionalism under tight deadlines.
Physical demands include the ability to move about office and event environments, transport oneself between City facilities and event sites, operate standard office and audiovisual/production equipment, communicate effectively in person and in writing, and occasionally lift and move event materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
