Tradesperson - Meter Services $41,944.00 - $49,927.00

($20.16 - $24.00/Hour)

Technician - Meter Services $46,243.00 - $55,045.00

($22.23 - $26.46/Hour)

Senior Technician - Meter Services $50,983.00 - $60,687.00

($24.51 - $29.18/Hour)

TRADESPERSON

Tradesperson - Meter Services is under the direct supervision of the Meter Crew Leader and/or Meter Services Manager. The employee must demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to install, activate, and record usage of water meters accurately. The employee must possess a working knowledge of safety requirements, equipment operation, tool and material requirements needed to complete their assigned task.

EXAMPLES OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED:

  • Submit daily reports on the overreads on accounts per book and cycle.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety, conduct, and job performance.
  • Perform installation, repair, and maintenance activities on the metering systems that meet local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Perform meter re-reads and identify possible reading errors.
  • Install new meter sets, schedule account transfers, identify and repair leaks, change out meters, and perform other related work orders as needed.
  • Able to competently complete work order assignments with some supervision and direction.
  • Participate in preventative maintenance and repair programs to extend equipment life and aid in the reliability and effectiveness of all Meter Services activities.
  • Maintain and perform all operations related to the AMR (Automated Meter Reading) system.
  • Ability to run GPS and map locations for all meters in the system.
  • Keep maintenance records on all assigned equipment.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays beyond regular shift as required.
  • Must be available for rotating on-call duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to use and maintain all required tools and equipment commonly used for meter reading and repair.
  • Ability to maintain records of completed work orders for time, equipment, and inventory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with superiors and crewmembers regarding assigned tasks and the proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to identify safety concerns and implement proper safety procedures in high-traffic areas.
  • Ability to perform duties other than those previously listed, as may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain a Class D Water certification issued through TCEQ within one year of employment.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Evidence of the experience, knowledge, skill, ability, and responsibility necessary to perform job requirements.

DESIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Additional training or experience in a related field.
  • Some knowledge of typical Meter Services concepts or practices.

TECHNICIAN

The employee must possess a specific knowledge of safety requirements, equipment operation, tool and material requirements needed to complete their assigned task.

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Possession of a TCEQ Class C Water Distribution license
  • 2 years of experience in maintaining an AMI water metering system.

DESIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Additional training or experience in a related field.
  • Supervisory experience
