Position Summary
Responsible for performing skilled maintenance and construction on city infrastructure including streets, sidewalks, city owned buildings and facilities, and performing other related duties as assigned. Work with little or no supervision with the ability to solve job related problems. Provides leadership to Maintenance Worker I and seasonal employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties, responsibilities and expectations are not necessarily limited to the following and are not enumerated in any particular order or priority. At any particular time, the frequency or duration with which one or more of the following specific duties is performed may vary widely.
· Lead a crew as needed to complete jobs effectively.
· Erect and maintain proper work zones, warning devices, and barricades for traffic control in accordance with MUTCD standards.
· Provide oversight and inspections on construction work being completed on city infrastructure by contractors and utility companies.
· Compose reports and fill out forms.
· Repair, replace, or install concrete and asphalt on city streets, sidewalks and infrastructure.
· Perform crack sealing on city streets and parking lots.
· Complete maintenance of bridge/culvert structures and storm sewer inlet repairs
· Perform tree maintenance including trimming and removal.
· Perform grounds maintenance including mowing and string trimming.
· Complete painting/striping on city streets.
· Install and maintain city street signs using federal guidelines.
· Complete building and facility maintenance on city owned properties.
· Perform vehicle, equipment, and tool maintenance.
· Operate a variety of equipment and machinery, including dump trucks, backhoes, skid-steers, limb chipper, lawn mower, asphalt roller and compactor.
· Use a variety of tools including concrete saws, chain saws, concrete finishing tools, and other hand tools.
· Remove snow on city roads and city properties by plowing, salting, and shoveling.
· Respond to emergency calls outside of normal working hours for snow removal, limb removal, and other issues as needed.
· Report to work outside of normal working hours for occasional non-emergency work and special events.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
· Effective communication and experience managing/leading people.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
· Extensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions involved in the operation of equipment.
· Proficient understanding of operation, maintenance, and limitations of equipment.
· Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation.
· Ability to detect signs of mechanical failure of equipment and to make minor repair and adjustments to equipment.
· Skilled in the operation of equipment, machinery, and tools.
· Skilled in writing, reading comprehension, and basic math.
Minimum Requirements – Education Certification and Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of maintenance or construction experience installing concrete and asphalt pavement, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Valid Class B commercial driver's license with airbrake endorsement is required.

Primarily an outdoor work environment. May be exposed to moderate noise levels and occasional loud noises from equipment. Occasionally exposed to varying, inclement weather; may be exposed to wet, humid, hot, and/or cold conditions. Occasionally required to work in hazardous traffic conditions and near moving mechanical parts; may work in high and dangerous places. Occasionally required to wear protective gear to limit exposure to dust, chemicals, and environmental toxins.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. Must be able to speak and hear clearly. Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand, and/or finger movement. Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Must have clarity of vision and the ability to adjust focus. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty.
