SUMMARY
Operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates municipal sewage treatment plant
Monitors control panels and adjust valves and gates to regulate flow

Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings Perfom1s daily test to determine load requirements
Starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes
Maintains logs of operations, test results, and meter and gauge readings Collects sewage samples and conducts laboratory tests
Demonstrate the ability to pull pump and perfom1,1·x essary service work
Perform PM duties to Waste Water Treatment Plant including, but not limited to washing clarifiers skimming ditch, service gear box drive, compressors, blowers, etc.
Demonstrate the ability to load and off-load CL2 and S02 cylinders and record consumption of each.
Learn to pump scum waste pit. Ability to supinate digesters.
Individual shall have a working knowledge of the collection system and its operation

- Ability to report Sanitary Sewer Overflows

Individual shall check sewer pumping stations for proper operation including but not limited to control panels and floats.
Individual shall demonstrate a working knowledge confined space entry requirement.
Individual shall have a basic understanding of the Pre-treatrnent Program and how to properly sample permitted sites.
Individual shall be able to clean bar screens, record flows (influent and effluent), clean grit chamber, grease screw pumps, clean telescopic valves at WAS/RAS pit, ability to return pumps read and record daily rainfall,
Individual must use sludge judge. Record data on DMR
Perform the necessary laboratory test as required by State and Federal Regulations.
Other duties may be assigned.
Individual must act as pre-treatment coordinator
Conducts periodic si te visits to pinnated and/or categorical customers in order to determine processing changes
Recommends solutions to either real or potential problems with waste water systems. Troubleshoots a wide variety of situations and recommends alternatives as required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Must lead and direct lab technician as required
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A.S.orA.A.) in biology. Chemistry, environmental science, engineering, or related field or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or three to five years related experience

and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Individual must possess a Grade IV Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator License and a Collection License.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical reports. Ability to respond to regulatory agencies. Ability to convey thoughts both orally and in written form. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, potential customers, clients, boards, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must be proficient with variables such as exponer.ls and logarithms.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of variables. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc)

- PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employer is frequently required to stand, walk, climb and/or balance. The employee is required to use hands, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to lift and move up to 25 lbs, frequently lift and/or move 50 lbs, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee must be able to work in all weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical µarts. Occasionally, the employee is exposed to wet conditions; high, precarious places; acidic, toxic, or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; noise level in the work environment can be loud.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations, principles, practices, equipment, and machinery.
- Working knowledge of electrical controls and telemetry equipment.
- Some knowledge of certification in confined space access and communicable disease control.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of wastewater plant operators and maintenance personnel working on shifts.
- Ability to prepare and maintain required records and reports. Ability to work with computers and various software packages including SCADA systems.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Possession of a Tennessee grade Ill or IV wastewater treatment and grade Il collection certification or the ability to obtain collection certification within one year.
- Five years' experience in the operation of wastewater treatment facilities; supervisory experience preferred.
- AS or BS in an environmental field is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a valid State of Tennessee driver's license and a good driving record.
- Must be able to submit to and pass a drug screening.
