The hiring range for this position is $74,355.84 - $94,773.12, DOE.
To be eligible for lateral placement, applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of service in a VRS AND/OR employment with an established full-time career Virginia Fire & Rescue Department. Lateral placement will be determined at a rate of .75 of credit for every completed year of service at a Virginia Fire & Rescue Department and will cap out at 10 years credited.

The Firefighter ALS is responsible for protecting life and property by performing difficult protective service work associated with fire suppression, emergency medical services, and related emergency response. This position may drive fire apparatus and operate fire pumps and/or aerial devices in emergency situations.
This classification is distinguished from Firefighter BLS in that incumbents are certified to provide advanced life support and emergency medical care.This position does require current Virginia certification* as a:
1) Firefighter II
2) VA EMT-Intermediate or VA EMT-Paramedic or National Registry paramedic
3) Current CPR
Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license.
High school diploma or GED required.
*Certifications must be Pro-Board (NBFSPQ), IFSAC, or VDFP and are subject to VDPF reciprocity.
