What are the responsibilities and job description for the Softball Umpire position at City of Madera?
Under general direction from the Recreation/Community Programs Coordinator, officiates youth and adult softball games following United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) rules; ensures game play is fair and safe; supports organized competition.
The Adult Softball Umpire is a part-time, at-will, class responsible for officiating adult recreation league softball games. Position may work daytime, evenings, nighttime, and weekends to support the public’s participation in recreational softball. Adult Softball Umpires must be dependable and timely in reporting to work in support of scheduled programming.
Education And/or Experience
Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Softball Umpire. Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of baseball and softball through previous participation at a recreation or competitive level. Prior officiating experience is a plus.
License/Certificate
Slow pitch softball officiating certificate is desired, but not required.
Only the most qualified applicants will be considered. Qualifications are determined based on submission of an Employment Application. The City Manager, upon recommendation of the department head, will make the final selection and appointment for this part time, at-will position. The examination process may consist of the following parts: Application Package Review: Qualifying Only; Oral Interview: Pass/Fail Applicants who require special examination accommodations due to disability should contact the Human Resources Department five (5) business days prior to any scheduled examination at (559)661-5401.
