Summary:
This position as a Public Works - Service Worker is a crucial role within the City of Madeira, responsible for maintaining and improving public infrastructure and services. Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor, the Service Worker plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of public works projects and services. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. This role requires a hands-on approach to tasks such as road maintenance, landscaping, and equipment operation. Strong communication skills and a commitment to safety are essential for success in this position.
Typical Tasks Performed:
- Clean culverts, gutters, sewers and drainage structures
- Maintains City owned grounds, cuts grass, rakes leaves, and other grounds maintenance
- Operate and maintain backhoe, loader, tractor, truck and other equipment
- Must be available for emergency duty (i.e. snow removal)
- Assists in patching holes in streets and berms
- Load/Unloads stone, dirt, road salt, asphalt, timber, lumber and light/heavy equipment
- Routine maintenance, and occasional construction, of buildings, drainage structures & public facilities
- Pick up paper/debris from City parks
Qualifications:
- Ability to operate and maintain various tools and equipment used in public works maintenance.
- Experience in performing routine maintenance tasks such as landscaping, road repairs, and facility upkeep.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record. CDL preferred.
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor tasks in various weather conditions.
- Previous experience in a similar role or vocational training in a related field is preferred.
Certifications in relevant areas such as first aid, CPR, or for specific equipment operation are a plus.
