CHIEF OF POLICE
CITY OF MACON POLICE DEPARTMENT
The City of Macon is currently accepting applications for a knowledgeable representative of the City to maintain public trust and serve as the Chief of Police. Located at the crossroads of US Highways 63 and 36, Macon has a population of 5,471 and has one police station for the 6 sq mile area. Macon is a vibrant community and is a premier place to live, work, and raise a family.
For the outdoor enthusiast, the four distinct seasons allow for excellent hunting, fishing, running, boating, kayaking, etc. Our City hosts 2 private schools (PK-8) and 1 public school (K-12),10 public parks, 2 fitness centers, an excellent health care system, and has a very low crime rate. Macon truly has everything needed for a community-oriented midwestern lifestyle.
Under direction of the Mayor, City Council, and City Administrator, the Police Chief oversees Department day- today operations and advises the city staff, elected officials, and citizens on matters of public safety and policies. The Macon Police Department has a force of 11 full-time sworn officers, with additional support staff and communications officers. Macon is seeking an experienced Chief of Police who will instill confidence and earn the trust of both commissioned and civilian employees and the community.

QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES
- Requires an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration or related field.
- Ten years of law enforcement experience, including at least three years of supervisory experience, or
- Any equivalent combination of education, trainings, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Must possess a Missouri State License as a Commissioned Law Enforcement Officer (P.O.S.T) with no active or pending disciplinary action.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Driver's License with a good driving record: no felony convictions nor convictions of crimes of moral indecency.
- Successful completion of pre-employment background check, physical, fit for duty exam, and drug screening.
- Extensive knowledge of federal, federal, state, and local laws.
- Able to sit or stand for up to eight hours per day; wear police uniform, duty belt, ballistic vest, and any other necessary protective equipment/uniforms; operate police vehicles, affect physical arrests, as necessary.
- Willingness to conduct and/or cover patrol and dispatch shifts, as necessary.
- Ability to react calmly in stressful situations and give oral and written instructions; analyze situations quickly, and objectively; make sound decisions consistent with established policies and procedures.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, public officials, local, state, and federal authorities, civic leaders, and the community.
- Possess strong leadership skills to effectively manage, develop, and maintain positive staff morale through coaching and mentoring.
- Manage the technical aspects of various police activities; plan, manage, and delegate a variety of work activities; and motivate departmental employees.
- Knowledge and willingness to assist in preparation of annual budgets, grant applications, presentations, reports, etc.
- Review timesheets for correctness and completeness of department staff, approve overtime and submit report to City Clerk for payroll.
- Manages internal control of police evidence and records.
- Attends meetings with City officials and follow through with tasks.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- RETIREMENT:
Defined benefit retirement plan with Missouri LAGERS (Local Area Government Employee Retirement System). LT-8 Benefit Program, non-contributory (100% City funded), includes 5 year vesting period with commissioned officer retirement age eligibility at 55.
- PAID HOLIDAYS:
Eleven paid holidays per year.
- PERSONAL DAYS:
Minimum of one personal day per year.
- VACATION:
Accrual of 80 hours annually with incremental increases based on years of service.
- SICK LEAVE:
Accrual of 96 hours annually with no maximum ceiling.
- OPTIONAL RETIREMENT:
Independent retirement investment services available through Lincoln Financial 457(b) plan via payroll deduction.
- HEALTH INSURANCE:
City of Macon employees and dependents are offered health coverage. 100% City funded for employees. Premiums associated with spouse and/or dependent coverage are the sole responsibility of the employee.
- DENTAL/VISION INSURANCE:
City of Macon employees and families are offered access to dental and vision insurance. 100% City funded for employees. Premiums associated with spouse and/or dependent coverage are the sole responsibility of the employee.
- LIFE AND ACCIDENTAL DEATH:
100% City funded life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance.
- VOLUNTARY INSURANCES:
Optional voluntary ancillary insurances including but not limited to: short-term disability, vision, cancer, life, and accident offered via payroll deduction.
