Maintenance Worker / Operator I in Training
Water & Wastewater Divisions
The City of Macomb, Illinois, is hiring full-time Maintenance Workers / Operators I in Training for its Water Production & Distribution and Wastewater divisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair water or wastewater facilities, equipment, and distribution or collection systems, depending on assignment.
- Operate hand tools, small equipment, and heavy machinery as qualified.
- Perform manual labor, maintain records, and follow safety procedures.
- Secure work zones with barricades and other safety equipment.
- Assist with plant operations, J.U.L.I.E. locates, and emergency response as assigned and qualified.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license; Water Division employees must obtain a Class B CDL within 180 days of hire.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, climb, crawl, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and public works maintenance practices.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively with coworkers and the public.
- Willingness to complete required training and obtain applicable certifications and operator licenses.
- Residency in McDonough County.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Starting salary: $40,958.05 annually.
- Additional compensation opportunities may be available upon successful completion of required training, certifications, and operator licensing associated with the position.
