Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Public Works Maintenance role located in Lorena, TX. The position is responsible for performing daily maintenance and repair of city infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, parks, and public facilities. Typical tasks include operating light and medium equipment, performing basic carpentry and concrete work, maintaining landscaped areas, and assisting with utility and sign maintenance as needed. The role involves routine inspections, reporting issues to supervisors, following safety procedures, and responding to service requests or urgent maintenance needs. The Public Works Maintenance team member collaborates with colleagues, follows work schedules, and supports special projects and seasonal tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Performs general labor work and uses basic tools, vehicles, and equipment to assist in the maintenance and repair of W/WW facilities, streets, parks, equipment, and infrastructure; follows safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; performs duties within scope of authority and training; duties may vary depending on job assignment and individual skills.
- Skill in operating and maintaining hand tools, power tools, and light to medium-duty equipment commonly used in public works and construction environments.
- Knowledge of safe work practices, willingness to follow safety protocols, and ability to work in outdoor conditions and physically demanding settings.
- Strong reliability, attention to detail, and ability to follow written and verbal instructions, complete work logs, and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Lorena and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in public works, construction, landscaping, or facility maintenance is preferred.
