Urban Forestry Field Worker -Part-Time

This position is employed only seasonally and/or part-time during the year with the City of Longview. A variety of duties and tasks may be assigned. Refer to the internal department for a specific duties listing.

Position Information: Provides arboricultural services for City departments including: perform minor-skilled tree and shrub maintenance and landscape work in City-owned parks, facilities and right of ways; assist full-time staff with pruning, tree planting and tree removals for public safety; and maintenance of public tree inventory data.

1. Assists with planting, transplanting, pruning, and removes trees in parks, along city streets, or on other public property from the ground.
2. Performs a variety of minor-skilled tree maintenance duties in park areas, landscapes, and/or other related areas, including: watering; pruning trees, shrubs, and hedges; and/or, performing other related activities.
3. Performs minor repairs/improvements and maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of Urban Forestry sites (shrubs, trees, and vegetation) and facility structures (restrooms, offices, parking lots, and other urban forestry facilities).
4. Operates a variety of tools and equipment following instructions and safety standards to inspect and maintain plants.
5. Maintains an electronic database of records concerning tree management activities.
6. Operates a variety of light-to-medium equipment and/or large trucks, which may include: dump trucks, trucks, and/or other related equipment
7. Performs other duties as required.

• 18 years old or older.
• Possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Driver’s License, except for corrected vision.
• FirstAid/CPR Certification or obtain within ninety(90 )calendar days or as scheduled.
• Traffic Control Flagging Card or obtain within ninety(90) calendar days or as scheduled.

Required Knowledge and Ability:

• Experience with or interest in learning care and maintenance of trees used for landscaping of urban areas.
• Ability to analyze and interpret policies, regulations, and maps.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and orally.
• Customer relations skills.
• Ability to operate personal computer programs, including those involving word processing ,spreadsheets, presentation graphics, and permit tracking.
• Experience with or interest in learning operation of equipment and small tools.
• Adhering to safe work practices.
• Performing manual labor.
• Operating applicable vehicles.
• Operating applicable grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
• Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor ,the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
• The ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with others in the workplace.

Salary : $17 - $20
