Job Objective & Safety/Security Sensitive Designation
JOB OBJECTIVE:To regularly inspect sub-standard commercial, industrial and office buildings in compliance with City of Little Rock Building Codes.
Essential Functions
- Performs regular inspections of sub-standard commercial, industrial and office buildings, buildings under construction, and residential homes to ensure properties are in compliance with City of Little Rock Building Codes; issues notices for building code violations advising property owners to either make required repairs or demolish structures.
- Notifies property owners, contractors or construction workers, by certified mail, of code violations and variations from approved building plans that must be corrected before construction continues; issues stop orders for serious violations or to persons failing to comply after previous notice; conducts follow up inspections to monitor and verify compliance with previously issued notices or stop orders.
- Develops bid specifications for the demolition of sub-standard commercial buildings; solicits bids for various demolition projects; answers questions and provides information regarding bid specifications; reviews bids and makes recommendations for bid awards.
- Inspects demolition structure sites to ensure compliance with applicable codes, rules, and regulations; compiles appropriate documents and files lien at courthouse for site completion and closure of file.
- Coordinates inspections of sub-standard buildings and residential homes with the Fire Marshall’s office to ensure damaged materials are removed and buildings are in compliance with applicable building and fire codes.
- Answers questions and provides technical information to owners and contractors regarding building codes and inspection procedures.
- Establishes and maintains hard copy and electronic files and records of unsafe commercial building inspections, violations, and other related information.
- Operates a computer with word processing software in the performance of essential job functions
- Operates a City pool automobile in the performance of essential job functions.
Minimum Qualifications, Additional Requirements and Supervisory Responsibilities
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.

Regular part-time employees who work 1,500 hours shall receive six (6) days of Sick Leave upon the completion of the 1,500 hours. If unused, this Sick Leave shall be allowed to accumulate to a maximum of fifteen (15) days (120 hours). Regular, full-time non-probationary employees who transfer to Regular, part-time positions will receive credit for the previous year's service for purposes of Sick Leave accrual and may carry over accrued Sick Leave accrual up to the maximum noted above.
Regular part-time employees who were in pay status (vacation, sick leave, or actual hours worked) for at least 1,500 hours during the year shall receive the following Vacation Leave:
Up to 10 years of service (40 hrs.) = 5 days per year
10 years or more (60 hrs.) = 7-1/2 days per year
