PURPOSE, SCOPE AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and management of the golf course, including pro shop, tournaments, events, leagues, grounds, facilities, and equipment. This role ensures that the golf course meets high-quality standards and provides an exceptional playing experience for members and guests. This position supervises staff, manages budgets, and implements strategies to maintain and enhance the course’s condition year-round. This position is full time year-round.

Reports to: City Administrator
Supervision: Assistant Head Groundskeeper, Groundskeepers, and Golf Course Attendants.
FLSA Status: Exempt

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Course Maintenance and Management:

  • Plan and oversee the maintenance of greens, fairways, tees, and roughs.
  • Monitor turf conditions, ensuring proper irrigation, fertilization, mowing, and pest control practices.
  • Identify and resolve agronomic issues, such as turf diseases and invasive species.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainability practices.

Pro Shop Management:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the pro shop, including customer service, sales, and merchandising.
  • Manage inventory of golf merchandise, supplies, and equipment; coordinate purchasing and vendor relationships.
  • Develop pricing strategies, promotions, and retail displays to maximize revenue.
  • Supervise pro shop attendants, ensuring a welcoming and professional experience for customers.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales, cash handling, and reporting.

Tournaments, Leagues, Events, and Community Engagement:

  • Plan, organize, and manage golf tournaments, leagues, and special events to enhance community engagement and participation.
  • Partner with local organizations, sponsors, and volunteers to support events and programs.
  • Coordinate scheduling, registration, and promotion of tournaments and leagues.
  • Ensure events are well-staffed, customer-focused, and professionally executed.

Marketing and Outreach:

  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the golf course, pro shop, leagues, and events.
  • Create outreach efforts to attract new players, members, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with city staff to promote programs through digital platforms, print materials, and community networks.

Team Supervision and Leadership:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise groundskeeping staff, providing clear direction and feedback. * Develop schedules and assign daily tasks to the maintenance team.
  • Foster a safe, efficient, and positive work environment.

Equipment and Facilities Management:

  • Maintain and repair course equipment, tools, and irrigation systems.
  • Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of maintenance facilities and pro shop.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and services.

Budget and Administrative Duties:

  • Develop and manage the annual maintenance and pro shop budget, tracking expenses and optimizing resources.
  • Maintain records of pesticide application, equipment servicing, inventory, sales, and staff training.
  • Prepare and present reports on course conditions, budgets, pro shop performance, events, and improvement plans.

Course Improvement Projects:

  • Collaborate with City Administrator on course enhancements and redesign projects.
  • Stay updated on trends and innovations in turf management, golf course maintenance, event programming, and retail management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in golf course maintenance or management.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of turfgrass science, irrigation systems, and course equipment.
  • Proficiency in pest and disease management practices.
  • Experience with budget preparation, financial management, and retail operations
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Customer service and sales management skills with a focus on enhancing player experience.
  • Ability to build partnerships with community organizations and effectively lead volunteers.

Certifications:

  • Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) Certification.
  • Pesticide Applicator License or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $68,120.00 - $81,328.00 per year
