General Job Description
To teach Middle School Science, create and implement a flexible program and classroom environment favorable and conducive to student learning and personal and spiritual growth. Develop lesson plans consistent with established COLCA guidelines. Establish an effective and positive rapport with students, COLCA staff, administrators, parents, and stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop lesson plans and upload them to FACTS
- Establish a positive classroom culture
- Enforce classroom rules and school policies
- Keep parents updated on their child’s progress
- Prepare students for standardized tests
- Recognize and support each student’s individual needs
- Grade classwork, homework, projects, labs, and tests
- Plan and implement a program of instruction that adheres to City of Life’s Christian Core Moral and Spiritual Values
- Strive to maximize the educational achievement and spiritual growth of each student
- Utilize a variety of student learning modalities in each lesson; use differentiated instruction to teach students to their full potential
- Assess students’ strengths and weaknesses on a frequent basis, provide age appropriate activities to address student needs, and generate, upload, and uphold progress reports as required
- Incorporate hands-on science experiments, STEM activities, and inquiry-based learning opportunities into instruction
- Maintain safe laboratory procedures and ensure proper use of classroom materials and equipment
- Encourage scientific thinking, problem solving, and collaboration while integrating a Biblical worldview into instruction
Provide a Classroom Environment Conducive to Student Learning
- Create a learning environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
- Maintain a positive rapport with students; demonstrate patience and appropriate nurturing to assist with students’ spiritual growth
- Ensure the classroom is clean, safe, organized, and includes student-generated work on display as appropriate
- Develop reasonable classroom behavior expectations in accordance with COLCA policies and procedures, and maintain order in a fair and consistent manner
Instructional Planning
- Develop lesson plans consistent with established Biblical worldview guidelines
- Plan individual and group learning activities designed to meet instructional objectives and students’ needs
- Integrate classroom discussions, labs, projects, technology, and interactive learning experiences into instruction
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect supplies, equipment, materials, and facilities needed to effectively implement the instructional program
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records
School/Community Relations
- Communicate clearly, consistently, and positively with parents/guardians via all appropriate mediums
- Strive to establish cooperative relationships and work collaboratively with administration and COLCA staff
- Participate in school events, faculty meetings, professional development, and spiritual activities as required
Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment toward the position and toward the mission statement as outlined in the COLCA Employee Handbook
- Possess strong time management and organizational skills
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to be at work consistently, arrive on time, follow directions, and seek feedback to improve performance
- Demonstrate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information Systems (FACTS), and email communication
- Strive to implement best practices and maintain a positive Christ-like character
- Ability to create engaging, student-centered science instruction that promotes curiosity and critical thinking
Qualifications
- A four year degree, preferably in Education or a Science-related field
- One year of teaching experience preferred
