The Swim Coach is responsible for leading and overseeing the training and development of swimmers in the Youth Piranhas program during the fall and winter seasons. This role involves planning and implementing effective practice sessions, fostering a positive and encouraging team environment, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive practice plans tailored to various age groups and skill levels within the Youth Piranhas team.
- Provide high-quality instruction in swimming techniques, stroke development, starts, turns, and competitive strategies.
- Motivate and inspire swimmers to achieve their full potential, promoting sportsmanship and teamwork.
- Ensure the safety of all swimmers during practice sessions, adhering to all facility rules and emergency procedures.
- Maintain accurate attendance records for practices.
- Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and the Aquatics Director regarding team activities, progress, and any concerns.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Coach to ensure a cohesive and effective coaching approach.
- Handle minor first aid incidents and, when necessary, escalate more serious concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Promote a positive and inclusive team culture.
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge/skills:
- Strong knowledge of competitive swimming techniques and training methodologies.
- Ability to effectively communicate, motivate, and instruct swimmers of all ages and abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable, responsible, and punctual.
Ability to:
- Establish priorities for own workload based upon such factors as the need for immediate action and work objectives.
- Communicate orally with co-workers in face-to-face one-on-one settings, or using devices.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Work Environment:
- Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less).
- Move light objects (less than 20 pounds) long distances (more than 20 feet).
- Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time.
Requirements:
- This position is subject to the City of Liberals Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes one or more of the following: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, and follow-up testing.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check and any other pre-employment screenings.
Education and Experience:
- Previous experience as a swim coach, preferably with youth swimmers.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)
Schedule:
- Fall Season: September - November 19th
- Winter Season: January 12th - March 25th
- Two days per week, two hours per day (specific days/times to be determined based on team practice schedule.
