GENERAL DEFINITIONS OF WORK
A Water Leak Technician is responsible for locating underground water leaks and identifying corrective and preventative actions to maintain the City of Lebanon water distribution system. A Water Leak Technician is expected to exercise considerable initiative in moving efficiently through the day’s work assignments. An incumbent in this class performs leak surveys on various segments of the water distribution system and responds to leak calls to pinpoint and document leaks found. Considerable knowledge of the distribution system and independent judgment must be used as leak detection depends heavily on the ability to interpret survey results. A Water Leak Technician is also responsible for performing utility construction work, maintaining, and repairing the City’s water and Collection systems; Employees in this class may operate a variety of light construction equipment including jackhammer, tamper, easement machine, boring and tapping machines, In addition to leak survey work, incumbents are responsible for Duties include but are not limited to surveying and collecting data from all Water distribution system; creating work orders and installing sacrificial anodes; and generating reports regarding the overall effectiveness of the program. This class performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
A High School diploma or G.E.D. is required.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 1 to 2 year of relevant work experience in Water and Sewer or related field in Leak and Knowledge in Itron Z Corr Digital Correlation Loggers, Vivax Metrotech VM-560 Locator, Sewerin Aquaphon A- 200, Sewerin Aqua Test T10, Sewerin Secorr C 200, Pipe Horn, is preferred.
DRIVER’S LICENSE
Valid Tennessee Driver's License and clear motor vehicle record is required. Class B CDL preferred.
CERIFICATION REQUIRED
Must possess a Grade I Distribution Certification by the State of Tennessee obtain certification within 2 years of hire and strongly desired or ability to obtain Grade II Distribution certification.
Must possess and maintain Cross Connection certification or obtain within 2 years of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT, AND REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

This role is entry level to Leak Detection. In this role, the employee will be expected to train under the Leak Technician and learn the essential job duties. After a non-specified amount of time, this individual performing the duties of the Trainee role will be evaluated for possible promotion to Leak Technician. This determination will be made through deliberation from all department supervisors. Candidates must be able to prove that they have a complete understanding and fully demonstrate the ability to perform all the essential duties of the Leak Technician job.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Employees in this class are under general supervision.
- Locates and/or repairs water main/service line leaks.
- Pinpoints underground leaks.
- May perform some or all the duties of Light Equipment Operator.
- May perform some or all of the duties of a meter technician.
- Operates and maintains water valve. Operates and maintains fire hydrants.
- Performs meter testing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Will be required to work “on call” duty when assigned.
- Knowledge of methods and practices used in maintenance and construction of water distribution systems and sewer collection systems.
- Knowledge of the City of Lebanon streets.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under unfavorable climatic conditions.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of maintenance of equipment and tools.
- Ability to use the necessary tools and equipment.
- Basic knowledge I-pad and Computer Skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship.
