GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
All swim lesson instructors will conduct swim lessons as scheduled by Aquatics Management. Lessons will instruct participants on a range of skills from basic swimming safety up to proper stroke development. Instructors should possess a working knowledge of aquatics safety, basic swimming concepts, and competitive swimming strokes. Instructors will work in concert with lifeguards and management to provide a thorough, efficient, and enjoyable swim lesson program. The certified swim instructor is responsible for the health and safe participation of all aquatic’s activities. This includes supervision of bathers, facility maintenance and administration of health care. The swim instructor is directly accountable to the Aquatics Manager. Prevents accidents to minimize or eliminate hazardous situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, AND RESPOSIBILITES
  • Instructs patrons in swimming and swimming safety skills
  • Provides quality swim lessons with an aim of educating participants and increasing skills.
  • Communicates with other lifeguards and facility staff the need for additional assistance.
  • Observes and enforces all rules and regulations of the facility.
  • Educates patrons and informs them of the purpose for the rules and regulations. Assist parents and family in locating a missing child.
  • Completes all required records and reports as schedule and submits them to the supervisor.
  • Instructs participants in rules and regulations of the facility.
  • Performs various duties as assigned or needed by the Aquatics Director.
  • Assists with swim lessons and swimming competitions.
  • Assists in the opening and closing of the pool area.
  • Communicates necessary information to responsible parties of lesson participants.
  • Conducts oneself in a professional manner at all times. Maintain records of lessons such as progress reports and attendance.
  • Attends staff meetings and training.
  • Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Availability between 8am-12pm and/or 3pm-7pm.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITES
  • Ability and comfort teaching students between the ages of 2 to 12 years of age.
  • Ability to communicate well with children.
  • Ability to relate and adapt to each student’s level and personality.
  • Ability to build authentic relationships with parents and students.
  • Ability to explain pool rules and water safety to students as well as abiding by them.
  • Ability to teach front crawl, backstroke, and elementary backstroke.
EDUCATIONS
A high school diploma or G.E.D preferred. Must be 16 years of age or older.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION
CPR first aid and LG certified or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Work involves life guarding duties, and a wide latitude of indoor and outdoor recreational activities. Requires flexible schedule with ability to adjust to day, night, holidays, and weekend work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT, AND REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION
Work requires climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideals by means of the spoken work; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required; visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, heat, humidity, adverse weather conditions, noise, and hazards.
