Performs mid-level complex work.  Works under limited supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Maintains the fleet of golf carts and equipment ensuring they are in good working condition.  Duties include repairing, replacing, and servicing mechanical and automotive equipment and diagnosing engine, mechanical, and electrical problems. The Mechanic must be available to work more than 40 hours per week when operational need is required along with being “on-call” when assigned by the Superintendent. 
  • Run and operate mowers and equipment that is repaired or needs repairs.
  • Supervises, leads, and directs assigned staff and provides evaluations.
  • Implement and maintain any and all policies and procedures as directed by the Superintendent and General Manager.
  • Oversee and schedule equipment preventive maintenance and upkeep of mower cutting units.
  • Assist with daily maintenance tasks on the course.
  • Assist in maintaining a high standard for the course overall conditions.
  • Assist in any record and process needed informational data; equipment records, part numbers, amount spent on equipment, equipment logs, fuel uses, etc.
  • In weather events during the absence of the Superintendent, communicate with Assistant Golf Course Superintendent or General Manager and Head Pro to determine if play is allowed for the safety of patrons, and course conditions.
  • Assist in regulating all mowing practices.
  • Assist in regular setup and morning mowing of the course.
  • Keep equipment and tool inventory.
  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in equipment purchases and equipment repair purchases.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment.
  • Assist in irrigation repairs, special projects, and other repairs on the course.
  • Maintain a professional image at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Required Education and Experience
 
  • A high school diploma/GED and three years of full-time mechanic experience.  
Required Certificates and Licenses
  • Valid Class License from any U.S. State. Must be able to obtain a Texas license within 90 days of hire, per state law.
  • Texas Commercial “Class A” driver’s license or must obtain one within six months of start of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five or more years of full-time mechanic experience.
  • Certified Turf Equipment Management (CTEM) Level 1 from the GCSAA. 
  • Experience working for a government entity such as a local, state, or federal agency.
  • Prior work experience working in a golf course as a mechanic.  
  • Must be knowledgeable of auto mechanics and the operation and repair of heavy and light equipment, repair hydraulic systems, diesel and gasoline engines, diagnose problems and repair machinery, work with a variety of hand and power tools, perform paint and body work on machinery. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to read wiring circuits diagrams.  
  • Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate with other employees and the general public in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Analyze situations and adopt quick, effect, and reasonable courses of action. 
  • Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule (i.e., early morning, afternoons, evenings, and late-nights shifts, weekends).
  • Workers must be able to follow safety procedures and use safety equipment to ensure personal, public, and personnel safety.
  • Skill in operating assigned equipment tools and vehicles safely.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, the public, elected officials, and boards and commissions. 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift or move 25 lbs. Working Environment 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally loud.
