The Utility Maintenance Crew Leader I / II plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of utility infrastructure. This position is safety-sensitive and/or DOT-related, requiring participation in random drug testing.

Utility Maintenance Crew Leader I
- Leads and trains a crew of four to five employees in the repair and maintenance of water and sanitary sewer lines and related infrastructure.
- Operates a backhoe and other heavy equipment used to excavate for the repair and maintenance of water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Performs on call duties 24 hours per day, seven days per week as assigned.
- Completes daily work orders.
- Communicates and coordinates with supervisors on task assignments.
- Receives and responds to public inquiries.
- Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and ensures compliance with preventive maintenance requirements for heavy equipment.
- Ensure proper trench safety protocols at all times
- Performs related work as required.
Utility Maintenance Crew Leader II
- Performs all duties of the Utility Maintenance Crew Leader I
- Capable of working under limited or moderate supervision while performing complex tasks.
- Provides second level of supervision for the Line Repair Department in the absence of the Utility Maintenance Supervisor.
- Must pass all proficiency requirements.
- High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
Uility Maintenance Crew Leader I
Must meet all required minimum qualifications in addition to the following:
- Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement
- Wastewater Collection II License issued by TCEQ
- Class C Water Operator License issued by TCEQ
Utility Maintenance Crew Leader II
Must meet all required minimum qualifications in addition to the following:
- Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement
- Wastewater Collection III License issued by TCEQ
- Class C Water Operator License issued by TCEQ
Knowledge of:
- English grammar, spelling, punctuation
- Heavy equipment operation and safety requirements
- Water and sewer infrastructure throughout the City and OSHA safety standards
- Heavy equipment preventive maintenance regulations and standards
- Safety standards, procedures, and proper digging techniques in equipment operation
- Utility related repair practices
- Industry practices and proper management skills
- Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
Skill in:
