Overview
The City of Laurens is seeking a Maintenance & Grounds Staff member to join the City's General Building Maintenance and Grounds Keeping team. This position is responsible for helping maintain City-owned buildings, facilities, parks, and public spaces to ensure they remain well-maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on City-owned buildings, facilities, and equipment.
- Maintain City parks, grounds, landscaped areas, and public spaces through mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, and debris removal.
- Operate and maintain landscaping and maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and hand tools.
- Assist with building maintenance tasks such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC repairs as assigned.
- Conduct routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards.
- Set up and tear down equipment, tables, chairs, and other materials for City events and community activities.
- Perform seasonal duties such as leaf removal, storm cleanup, and other weather-related maintenance activities.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations as needed.
- Follow all City policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulations while performing assigned duties.
- Work collaboratively with other City departments and employees to support daily operations and special projects.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Experience in maintenance, groundskeeping, landscaping, construction, or a related field preferred.
- Skills:
- Ability to operate maintenance equipment, lawn equipment, small machinery, and power tools safely.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform heavy lifting, digging, and extended outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Certifications:
- Valid driver's license may be required for certain duties (e.g., operating city vehicles or trucks).
- Working Conditions:
- Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
