The City of Lathrup Village is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking professional to serve as its next Community & Economic Development Director. This leadership position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of a vibrant community through strategic planning, economic development, redevelopment initiatives, infrastructure coordination, and downtown revitalization.
Under the direction of the City Administrator, the Community & Economic Development Director will oversee the City’s economic and community development activities, including planning and zoning administration, business recruitment and retention, grant management, Downtown Development Authority operations, and special projects designed to strengthen neighborhoods and enhance the City’s tax base and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the City’s economic development, redevelopment, and business attraction efforts
- Serve as staff liaison and advisor to the Planning Commission, Downtown Development Authority (DDA), Zoning Board of Appeals, and Historic District Commission
- Administer zoning and land-use regulations and oversee planning initiatives
- Coordinate infrastructure and capital improvement projects
- Manage grant writing, procurement, administration, and reporting
- Oversee site plan reviews and guide public and private development projects
- Prepare and implement planning studies, ordinances, and community development strategies
- Supervise departmental staff and consultants
- Collaborate with businesses, developers, community organizations, and regional partners
- Support implementation of the City’s Master Plan and Redevelopment Ready Communities initiatives
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in urban planning, public administration, economic development, or related field preferred
- Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in community or economic development, planning, zoning, or municipal administration
- Strong knowledge of Michigan planning and zoning practices, economic development strategies, and municipal operations
- Excellent communication, project management, and relationship-building skills
- Experience with grant administration, redevelopment initiatives, and public engagement preferred
- AICP certification and/or Redevelopment Ready Communities experience is a plus

Type: Full-Time
Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 DOQ
