The City of Las Vegas invites applications for a Licensed Behavioral Health Clinician.
This position provides assessment, counseling, clinical support, and crisis intervention for city employees and their family members. Coordinates and manages cases. Fosters a culture of positive psychological, emotional, social, spiritual, and physical wellness for city employees.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives direction and supervision from the Organizational Development and Training Manager.
Selection Process:
The selection process will include a review of all applications with only the most qualified participating in an interview. Final candidate selection will include hiring interview (if applicable). Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test and complete background check. Some positions may require preliminary background checks. Essential Functions:
- Provides direct casework, and individual and group therapy or counseling for city employees and their family members as appropriate. Maintains strict confidentiality of information obtained in the course of daily work. Information discussed with participants of the program will be considered privileged and confidential with the following exceptions:
- The participant poses an immediate threat to self or others that would otherwise legally obligate any behavioral health clinician, in similar circumstances, as a mandatory reporter.
- The participant admits to the commission of a felony crime that would otherwise legally obligate any behavioral health clinician, in similar circumstances, as a mandatory reporter.
- Provides and/or coordinates crisis and acute trauma treatments for city employees and potentially their family members after critical incidents; maintains contact and track progress of employees, facilitates their return to work when appropriate.
- Makes referrals to intake facilities and community resources for appropriate level of care or additional resources.
- Provides feedback and policy recommendations to address employee well-being and needs.
- Provides continuous stress management resiliency through education and resource referral for all city staff to address on-going, non-critical, job-related stress; encourage proactive response to stress management.
- Develops and maintains an atmosphere of openness and approachability so employees are comfortable discussing all matters related to emotional and/or physical issues; visits department work locations to provide employees an opportunity to discuss concerns or issues they are facing.
- Stays abreast of new developments and innovations in the field of behavioral health and wellness in the workplace.
- Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant case documentation and records.
Marginal Functions:
- Serves as the Behavioral Health liaison for city sponsored programs/efforts as well as valley wide emergency assistance, crisis intervention or other similarly categorized efforts.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Five years of clinical experience in behavioral health counseling.
Desirable Experience: Demonstrated cultural competence in working with first responders/emergency workers, including knowledge of the unique challenges and stressors faced by this population and their families.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social work, counseling, psychology, sociology or a closely related field.
Education requirement may not be substituted with additional work experience.
Desirable Education: Master’s Degree or greater.
License or Certificate Requirements
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.
Possession of a current valid license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the State of Nevada, on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.
Knowledge of:
Principles and techniques of clinical and case management work.
Principles and practices of peer counseling and crisis intervention; the methods and techniques of interviewing; department policies and procedures; local area professional and community support organizations and resources; and the causes, symptoms, and treatment of drug, alcohol, gambling dependency, and suicide intervention.
Critical incident stress management techniques, protocols, and procedures.
Crisis intervention with first responders/emergency workers techniques, protocols and procedures. Critical incident stress management activities conducted by other organizations locally, regionally and nationally.
Techniques of counseling, especially in the areas of peer support, recognition of violence in the workplace, suicide prevention, and grief and mourning support. The demands and stresses to which employees of the assigned area are subject.
