Work is performed in an office environment, and occasionally in a transit vehicle and transit operations traffic environment.
Physical Factors
Moderate physical requirements, frequent bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, squatting, pushing/pulling, lifting, carrying, and reaching from all levels.
Work Situation Factors
Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours, and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policies.

Full-time, regular, exempt position.
This position is graded RX15.
Duties and Responsibilities
Organizes, schedules, and supervises the fixed-route operations and staff of the City transit program, in accordance with program policies and procedures and public transit regulations; resolves customer service issues and complaints; presents the highest level of customer service possible to clients and assures that all public contact by other staff follows this high standard.
Meets regularly with staff to review work in progress, discuss and resolve administrative, workload, and technical issues, and to prioritize and assign tasks and projects; evaluates and analyzes functions, resources, processes, and procedures to identify issues and recommend changes for improvement; interprets applicable rules and regulations within scope of authority to provide leadership and guidance in developing, implementing, and administering policies and procedures.
Inspects the work of assigned staff to assure work quality and the timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities; assures compliance with safety and service standards; monitors vehicle maintenance, and recommends vehicle and equipment repairs.
Supervises staff through appropriate work oversight; plans, prioritizes and coordinates work assignments; disciplines, trains and evaluates staff; coaches and instructs employees as required; monitors work, reviews work activities, and evaluates performance; assures that staff maintains safe vehicles, and adheres to policies and procedures for efficient operations.
Assures Bus Operators are ready and prepared for duty, briefed on road conditions and routes, adequately trained and equipped, and are held accountable for duties and responsibilities assigned; adjusts transit routes as needed to meet driving conditions and staffing availability; oversees DOT testing compliance requirements for Bus Operators.
Collect fares from each bus at the end of the day; assure vault is safe and secure for next shift supervisor; prepare deposit slip for bank deposit.
Reviews, maintains, and updates records in various formats, mediums, and automated systems to ensure data integrity and adherence to internal controls, practices, and policies; evaluates programs, services, and activities to ensure customer and staff needs are met; demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless services.
Responds to and resolves various complaints, issues, inquiries, and problems as authorized and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Prepares, reviews and compiles reports and program statistics; checks drivers' daily logs and mileage; maintains daily receipt records and program counts, and secures funds received.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED AND two (2) years experience in public transit programs which may include lead/supervisory experience. Bus operator experience may be preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
Licenses/Certification(s)
A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement may be preferred at time of hire, but required within one hundred eighty (180) days of hire. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy. Specific license requirements may apply; driving record is subject to review and approval. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are desirable.

Skills in: Effectively supervising staff, and delegating tasks and authority; using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; using courtesy and respect in providing customer service; performing general math calculations, and records management tasks; reading and interpreting maps, and scheduling effective routing for transit service; operating a computerized scheduling system; operating transit vehicles in a safe manner, in compliance with all traffic laws, City policy and procedures, and state and local regulations.
