This position is graded at BC05.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Digs and fills holes; patches cuts and holes on streets; repairs and cleans storm drains.
- Services, repairs and maintains small engines and equipment; performs minor welding repairs.
- Performs maintenance and repair of chain link fencing, guardrails and wood bollards; cleans drainage channels and irrigation ditches.
- Removes broken concrete; sets concrete forms; pours concrete into formed areas; participates in concrete finishing; strips forms; back fills open areas; replaces landscaping; performs general clean-up.
- Picks up debris from roadways and right of way locations; cleans debris from drain gates; cleans drainage channels and irrigation ditches.
- Cleans storm drains thought the city; assists in locating storm drains when needed; cuts weeds and removes trash throughout the city when needed and supports special projects and traffic control.
- Loads trucks; dumps debris.
- Performs maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities.
- May assist with the set up traffic control devices.
- Checks lift stations for proper operation and flood control.
- Maintains inventory of materials, tools, and equipment; issues, disburses, and checks out tools and equipment to crews; orders materials, tools, and equipment for work crews; maintains records of tools and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
No specific educational requirement. Two (2) years of experience as a laborer; experience in street maintenance is desirable; may require two years of experience as a laborer performing concrete work. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver’s license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City policy.

Knowledge of: principles, practices, techniques, activities, rules, and regulations related to the operations and functions of building/street maintenance program; current principles of record keeping and records management; customer service, and problem resolution techniques; occupational and environmental safety and health hazards, and safety practices; safe and effective use and maintenance of related tools, materials, and equipment; current methods and standards for preparing effective business correspondence; correct English usage, grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; business and personal computers and related software applications; City organization, operations, policies, and procedures to effectively perform the required functions and duties of the position.
