The City of Laramie is seeking responsible, energetic, and motivated candidates for the position of Recreation Program Generalist – Fitness and Yoga Instructor. This position is responsible for leading engaging and safe fitness classes for participants of varying skill levels.
Primary duties include developing and implementing class curriculum, organizing class activities and schedules, demonstrating exercises, and instructing participants on proper techniques and safe practices. Instructors are expected to promote a positive and welcoming environment, ensure participant safety, and maintain a clean and secure facility. This position also requires knowledge and enforcement of Recreation Center rules, policies, and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and lead fitness and yoga classes.
- Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and provide clear instruction.
- Monitor participants to ensure safe and appropriate activity levels.
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and encouraging atmosphere.
- Ensure equipment and activity areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
- Enforce Recreation Center policies and safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with participants, staff, and supervisors.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and incidents.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Knowledge of fitness instruction methods, techniques, and best practices.
- Demonstrated interest and experience in fitness instruction.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants, and the public.
- Ability to motivate and engage participants in a positive manner.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision and follow instructions.
- Reliable, organized, and safety-conscious.
- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions associated with fitness instruction.
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification required (training may be provided to the successful candidate).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Yoga Instructor Certification.
Applicants who are offered appointments will be required to pass a drug screening, a comprehensive background investigation, and a driver’s license check.
