Under the direct supervision of the Senior Life Center Supervisor, the Transportation Provider is responsible for safely operating City transportation vehicles, including vans, minibuses, and full-sized buses.

This position provides transportation for children, youth, teens, adults, and senior participants traveling to and from City recreational facilities, programs, activities, field trips, and other approved destinations.

In addition to transportation responsibilities, this position assists with Senior Life Center operations, including customer service, member registration, meal service, facility preparation, activity support, outings, recordkeeping, and maintaining City vehicles in safe operating condition.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, courteous, and comfortable working with individuals of all ages and abilities. This position may require occasional evening or weekend work, night driving, and driving during inclement weather.

  • Provides professional customer service to patrons in person, by telephone, and by email.

  • Assists with congregate meal registration, memberships, and participant orientation.

  • Enters and maintains member information and other required program data.

  • Assists with serving daily meals and with cleaning the dining hall and kitchen following the daily lunch program.

  • Completes daily facility checklists and reports broken, damaged, or unsafe equipment for repair or replacement.

  • Follows established opening and closing procedures.

  • Ensures classrooms and meeting areas are clean, organized, and safe before and after classes or meetings.

  • Sanitizes surfaces, arranges furniture, monitors supplies, and restocks materials as necessary.

  • Develops and implements monthly outing schedules based on senior participant interests and preferences, including outdoor activities, cultural experiences, recreational opportunities, and social events.

  • Assists instructors during classes by helping manage the classroom, supporting activities, and providing assistance to participants as needed.

  • Assists with the training and coordination of volunteers.

  • Assists with organizing and facilitating monthly committee meetings.

  • Assists senior citizens and other passengers when boarding and exiting City vehicles when needed.

  • Safely operates City transportation vehicles, including vans, minibuses, and buses.

  • Serves as the primary transportation provider for Youth Services and Senior Services.

  • Transports children, youth, teens, adults, seniors, and other program participants to and from City facilities, activities, outings, field trips, and approved destinations.

  • May operate City vehicles during inclement weather conditions and may be required to perform occasional night driving.

  • Cleans and maintains buses and other assigned transportation vehicles before and after use to help ensure safe operating conditions.

  • Performs basic preventative maintenance checks, including checking and refilling vehicle fluid and fuel levels.

  • Reports vehicle maintenance, mechanical concerns, damage, and repair needs to the supervisor or Fleet Manager.

  • Maintains accurate transportation records, including passenger information, mileage, fuel usage, destinations, and purpose of travel.

  • Sweeps, mops, and cleans common areas and restrooms as assigned.

  • Adheres to assigned work schedules and City and departmental attendance policies and procedures.

  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate is required.

  • The successful candidate must be able to safely operate transportation vehicles, including a bus capable of transporting approximately 35 passengers.

  • The successful candidate should also demonstrate the ability to:

  • Communicate professionally and effectively with children, youth, teens, adults, senior citizens, individuals with physical challenges, City employees, and members of the public.

  • Read and understand safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Prepare routine records, reports, and correspondence.

  • Maintain accurate passenger, mileage, fuel, destination, and transportation records.

  • Follow written and verbal instructions and exercise sound judgment in routine situations.

  • Perform basic mathematical calculations.

  • Provide courteous and patient customer service.

  • Assist participants when boarding and exiting transportation vehicles as needed.

  • Work occasional evenings and weekends as required by programs, activities, and transportation schedules.

  • Operate vehicles during occasional night driving and inclement weather conditions.

  • Maintain safe vehicle conditions and promptly report maintenance or repair concerns.

  • Applicants must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement. This is a required qualification for the position.

  • Must successfully complete all required pre-employment screening requirements, including a drug screen and background check.

  • Must obtain valid CPR and First Aid certifications within three months of employment.

  • Driving is an essential requirement of this position.
