What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tennis Instructor position at City of Lakeland, Civil Service?
The position is classified as part time, but could receive full time hours.
This is a seasonal position, tentatively beginning in June 2026.

- Instructs children in the fundamental skills of tennis.
- Supervises children on the tennis court.
- Organizes and plans tennis team rosters.
- Maintains fiscal records.
- Officiates as required.
- Assists with special events.
- May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
- Position designated as Mission Critical by Department Director.
- Performs related work as required.
- Completion of eight school grades.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must maintain a valid telephone number.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of tennis.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the general public.
- Strong tennis playing abilities.
- Ability to mediate, troubleshoot, problem solve and diffuse potential difficulties.
- Ability to maintain statistical and fiscal records and prepare reports.
- Ability to arrange and coordinate schedules for league and tournament play.
- Requires active work that involves walking, playing tennis or standing some of the time and exerting up to ten pounds of force regularly.
- The job risks exposure to significant environmental hazards, blood-borne pathogens, human waste, extreme outside temperatures, and bright/dim light.
- The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of taste, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
