The City of Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation Department is seeking Swim Instructors for the Lake Oswego Recreation and Aquatic Center (LORAC). We are looking for self-motivated candidates to join our on-call part-time staff. The ideal candidate will possess an outgoing personality, a positive attitude, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

Swim Instructors will be responsible for teaching water safety and swimming skills as outlined by the LORAC Learn to Swim program to participants ranging from infants to adults.  

HOURS: This is a year-round position, up to 20 hours per week at the LORAC. Lessons are offered weekday mornings, afternoons/evenings, and Saturday mornings.

  • Teach water safety and swim skills in group lessons in accordance with the LORAC’s Learn to Swim program curriculum.
  • Interact professionally with customers, staff, and the general public.
  • Begin and end all classes on schedule.
  • Communicate any incident/injury reports to supervisor.
  • Provide quality instruction to participants in the LORAC’s Learn to Swim program.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment for all participants.
  • Attend trainings, personal and professional development opportunities, and contribute to positive work culture.
  • Current CPR/AED certification (if not currently certified, please reach out for upcoming classes).
  • Ability to communicate professionally and efficiently (verbal and written).
  • Ability to teach in the water.
  • Experience teaching or leading groups of various ages.
  • Ability to pass a water/swim skills test.
