Description
The City of Lake Forest is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Preschool Aide to join the team at Kinderhaven Preschool Academy, part of the Lake Forest Parks & Recreation Department. This role is ideal for a motivated adult who is passionate about early childhood education and creating a safe, nurturing learning environment for preschool-aged children.
This is a part-time assistant teacher position and hours vary depending on the class schedule. Our program offers multiple classes that meet on different days and times throughout the week. Some teachers may have the opportunity to work in more than one class depending on availability.
Below are the current classes and hours we are looking to fill:
Red Class
- Monday - Thursday: 12:00PM - 4:00PM
- Friday: 12:30PM - 2:30PM (Staff Meeting)
- Monday, Wednesday & Friday: 8:30AM - 12:00PM
- Friday: 12:30PM - 2:30PM (Staff Meeting)
- Tuesday & Thursday: 8:30AM - 1:00PM
- Friday: 12:30PM - 2:30PM (Staff Meeting)
Examples of Duties
Assist with daily classroom setup and takedown
Maintain cleanliness through regular sanitization of high-touch surfaces and shared supplies
- Supervise children to ensure safety and enforce classroom rules and procedures
- Support instructors in implementing class curriculum
- Foster a friendly, organized, and engaging classroom atmosphere
- Communicate effectively and professionally with parents and staff
- Serve as a positive role model and active team member
Qualifications
Prior experience working with children, preferably preschool-aged
Basic understanding of child development and age-appropriate practices
- Team-oriented with strong leadership and independent work skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach is a plus
- Willingness to work additional hours as needed
- Commitment to continuing education and professional growth
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must pass a DCFS background check
- Knowledge of sound recreation and education philosophy
