The City of La Mesa is hiring for a paid intern position in the Planning Division of the Community Development Department. This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited position working approximately 15-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday (schedule is flexible).

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. Current enrollment in a college Degree program in a field related to the department's mission is desirable.

License Or Certificate

- Perform various administrative and analytical support duties in support of assigned City department including conducting surveys and preparing reports and maps; select and apply appropriate research techniques to conduct studies and surveys.
- Assist with collecting, compiling and interpreting data; developing and evaluating the effectiveness of proposals, new programs, procedures and policies; preparing and evaluating descriptive, analytical reports and summaries in a clear and concise manner.
- Consult with City staff, citizens, outside consultants, businesses and other governmental agencies on project basis.
- Monitor the progress of various projects; track construction project budgets and contracts.
- Assist with reviewing, updating and/or creating department operational policies, procedures, and documents for review by management staff.
- Compose correspondence and prepare responses to requests received from citizens.
- Maintain department filing systems and records; modify systems as appropriate.
- Receive, sort and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and correspondence; copy and distribute as requested; respond to routine correspondence.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Performsimple building and planning design and drafting; conduct field research; read plans and maps; gather records and information.
- Design or create graphics to meet specific promotional needs, such as flyers, displays, and guidebooks.
- Data entry and map creation through Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
