The City of La Grande is now accepting applications for a unique, 3-year grant-funded position in the Parks & Recreation Department!
This is your chance to make a lasting impact in our community by:
- Connecting with underserved neighborhoods through creative outreach, advertising, and communication strategies.
- Leading hands-on demonstrations in tree planting, pruning, and watering.
- Promoting and expanding our tree planting programs alongside the City Urban Forester.
- Coordinating volunteers to bring green spaces to life across La Grande.
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week role (Monday–Friday) where you’ll grow your skills, share your knowledge, and help shape a healthier, greener future for our city.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Perform a variety of outreach, advertisement, and communication strategies; create and deliver culturally sensitive presentations; conduct on-site demonstrations on tree planting, maintenance and pruning; coordinate planting events with the City Urban Forester and assist in coordinating volunteers for tree-related projects.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:
REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma required.
PREFERRED:
- Experience and/or education in the fields of Urban Forestry, Forestry, Horticulture, or Community Organizing.
- Experience leading projects, including developing work plans, coordinating with stakeholders, and evaluating outcomes.
- Experience producing clear and culturally relevant communication materials, such as advertising, website, and education materials.
- Experience conducting outreach, public speaking, networking, and relationship building with diverse audiences.
