Duties And Responsibilities
- Assists in operating various equipment associated with cutting and trimming grass, trees, shrubbery, etc.
- Picks up trash and debris around city property and empties trash containers.
- Performs related tasks as required
- Performs additional duties essential to the Public Works Department and/or City needs, as needed and deemed necessary by management.
- General knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in grounds maintenance.
- Ability to acquire a knowledge within a reasonable time period of the methods and techniques of grounds maintenance.
- Ability to accurately follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform difficult manual labor for extended periods of time, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Ability to use department related equipment and materials safely with training.
- Any combination of education and experience in ground maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of lawn care equipment; mowers, string trimmer, edger, blower.
- Work is generally performed in outside environmental conditions in which the employee is subject to workplace hazards including exposure to operating mechanical equipment and atmospheric conditions with extreme cold and heat for extended periods of time. Employee is subject to a level of noise requiring hearing protection and workers to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
- In addition, the employee is subject to a chance of injury from basic job requirements.
- Must be able to perform the basic life operational skills of climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform occasional heavy work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Possession of a valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License.
