This position will perform complex commercial plan reviews for structural and non-structural integrity prior to the issuance of building permits, monitor construction plan timeframes and conformance by periodic field inspection. interpret and apply applicable codes and regulations in the evaluation of proposals for new materials, review plan applications and may perform engineering analysis of structural design. Provides assistance to architects, engineers and general public concerning code interpretation and recommends procedures for resolving conflicts.

- Provides assistance to architects, engineers, building contractors and the general public concerning structural, mechanical and architectural issues and design, such as interpretation of and compliance with Building, Fire, Plumbing, Mechanical Energy and State adopted codes.
- Reviews commercial and residential construction plans and engineering calculations of structural, mechanical, architectural components to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and recommends method of compliance to meet the intent of each related item. Review building, site, utility and other plans to determine compliance with applicable codes, and provide comments regarding necessary revisions.
- Recommends and develops procedures for resolving contractor, building inspection and citizen conflicts regarding interpretations of construction codes. Recommends and develops procedures to implement division service levels in relation to plan review processing time.
- Prepares reports, presentations and conducts various technical support for the departments permit tracking software.
- Inspects work in progress to assure projects are completed in compliance with applicable codes, specifications, standards and time schedules.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Must be an ICC Certified Plans Examiner or have 2 or more years of experience performing plan review in a municipal or similar setting.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Washington driver’s license.
- Must pass a criminal background investigation.
- Must maintain a level of mental and physical fitness required to perform the essential functions of this classification.
- Must maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Must obtain and/or maintain an ICC Plans Examiner certification while in the position. Obtaining the certification must be done within two years of hiring, if candidate does not possess a valid certification at hiring.
