General Description
$15.04 TO 18.05 PER HOUR TO START
Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled work requiring manual labor and operating heavy equipment. Work involves operating and maintaining heavy equipment. Reports to the assigned Foreman.
Duties of Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Equipment Operator I’s perform a variety of work according to assigned work and/or supervisor.
Duties may include the following:
Operates a backhoe as needed.
Performs daily maintenance on equipment.
Performs general maintenance such as cleaning drainage ditches, repairing drainage pipes, etc.
Provides assistance to other divisions and departments as needed or assigned.
Performs grounds keeping such as cutting grass, trimming trees, performing weed eating, etc. Hauls materials and supplies. Performs asphalt finishing and concrete labor. Loads and unloads equipment.
Reports need for repair, maintenance, or upgrade of vehicles and equipment.
Receives and/or reviews various records and report such as verbal instructions from supervisor. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as assessment of job and verbal instructions.
Refers to supervisor’s instructions, policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.
Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as backhoe, bobcat, excavator, truck, chipper, etc.
Uses a variety of tools such as shovel, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as grease, asphalt, concrete, wood, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Foreman, asphalt crew, parkway crew, concrete crew, coworkers, and the general public.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides assistance with hanging holiday decorations.
Performs other related duties as required.
Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires nine to twelve months of experience operating heavy construction and maintenance equipment or general construction/landscaping; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have a valid Class “B” Louisiana driver's license.
