Do you like working with your hands, solving problems, and doing work that directly impacts your community? Join our Public Works team as a Water/Sewer Service Aide II in our Meters Division.
This is a hands-on position where no two days are exactly alike. You’ll work in the field reading, maintaining, testing, repairing, and replacing water meters at homes, businesses, and other properties. You’ll also interact with customers, troubleshoot service issues, and help keep our water system running accurately and efficiently.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Note: This position is subject to recall and stand-by duty during non-regular working hours, weekends, and holidays. This position should be able to respond within 60 minutes to staff the work site. In addition, once a CDL is obtained, this position is subject to federal commercial driver’s license (CDL) drug and alcohol requirements.
Minimum qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 3-12 months of related experience and/or training. This position must obtain a CDL with tank endorsement and air brakes within 18 months of employment. Both the Grade I NH Water Distribution Certificate and Grade I Wastewater Collection Certificate are desired!
Pay and Benefits:
During the 6-month probationary period, the pay rate for this position is $21.28 per hour. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, this position will move to the regular pay schedule which consists of pay steps and hourly rates ranging from $22.13- $26.91 per hour, depending on experience.

- Read water meters at private residences, businesses, pools, and other properties.
- Test, troubleshoot, and repair water meters, including rebuilding meters when needed.
- Replace water meters according to department schedules and as service needs arise.
- Perform water service shut offs and other field service work.
- Talk with customers and resolve concerns with professionalism and good public service skills.
- Perform backflow surveys and inspections of new and existing installations.
- Track and maintain accurate records of meter repairs, replacements, inspections, and other work.
- Enter, analyze, and interpret metering and water-accounting data.
- Use asset management software to document work and track equipment and system information.
- Work with the Finance Department to address billing and customer service issues.
- Be available for scheduled on-call water and/or sewer work.
