Are you an organized, detail-oriented professional with a passion for people and process? Do you thrive in a collaborative, service-driven environment? The City of Keene is seeking a Human Resources Specialist to join our dedicated team of 3 other HR professionals!
In this dynamic role, you’ll be at the heart of the City’s Human Resources operations, supporting employees, departments, retirees, and volunteers while maintaining essential systems and records that keep our organization running smoothly. From coordinating hiring and onboarding to supporting benefits administration, safety, and compliance, this position offers a variety of responsibilities with room to grow and make a meaningful impact.
What You’ll Do:
As the Human Resources Specialist, duties include (but not limited to):
- Provide technical and administrative support across all HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, training, risk management, and benefits.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employees, job applicants, retirees, and internal departments.
- Maintain accurate employee records in our Human Capital Management System, ensuring data integrity for classifications, compensation, benefits, and deductions.
- Track and manage workers’ compensation claims, employee leaves, and coordinate related documentation and compliance processes.
- Assist with recruitment logistics, background checks, E-Verify, and new hire orientation.
- Generate and distribute HR reports, maintain up-to-date procedures, and support records retention and archiving.
- Provide exceptional customer service while managing a high volume of sensitive and confidential information.

Pay and Benefits:
This full-time position offers a competitive pay range of $29.69- $37.00 per hour and will also receive an attractive benefits package which includes low deductible/low-cost health insurance, low-cost dental insurance, State of NH Group I retirement, and other benefits such as life insurance, disability, and paid time off. Municipal employees may also qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
