Description
Are you passionate about engineering, construction, mapping technology, and public service? The City of Keene is looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Engineering Technician to join our Public Works team. In this role, you'll play a vital part in supporting the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the City's infrastructure and utility systems.

What You'll Do
- Assist with field surveys of utility infrastructure and public works construction sites.
- Support the design and development of City engineering projects.
- Perform inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
- Assist with infrastructure planning, maintenance, and improvement initiatives.
- Review plans, blueprints, sketches, subdivision applications, and site plans for accuracy and compliance with established standards and construction practices.
- Conduct field inspections related to development and construction projects as needed.
- Maintain and organize engineering records, including maps, plans, drawings, blueprints, reports, and field documentation.
- Manage and update GIS data, utility asset maps, and related databases.
- Maintain the City's asset management and work order system (Cartegraph).
- Provide research, drafting, and technical support services.
- Assist residents, contractors, and developers with engineering permits, requirements, and inquiries.
- Process permit applications and verify compliance with initial requirements.
- Issue permits for single-family driveways, street excavations, and sidewalk encumbrances.
- Maintain accurate permit records within the City's online permitting system.
This position is subject to standby and callback during non-regular working hours, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications
An associate’s degree in engineering plus 1-3 years of professional engineering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. An Engineer in Training or Land Surveyor in Training registration is desired.
Pay and Benefits
As of 7/1/2026, this full-time position offers a competitive pay range of $32.70- $40.75 per hour and will also receive an attractive benefits package which includes low deductible/low-cost health insurance, low-cost dental insurance, State of NH Group I retirement, and other benefits such as life insurance, disability, and paid time off. Municipal employees may also qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
