What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant/ Deputy Treasurer position at CITY OF JONESVILLE?
If you’re looking for a role where your financial expertise directly impacts a community, the City of Jonesville is looking for an Accountant/Deputy Treasurer to join the team. Reporting directly to the City Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the city’s financial heartbeat. This is a full-time, non-exempt position where you’ll assist the Finance Director with the annual budget and audit prep, while also teaming up with the Treasurer to manage property tax collection and distribution. It’s the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to balance technical accounting with meaningful public service.
Your day-to-day will be dynamic, covering everything from bank reconciliations and cash flow management to monitoring grants and maintaining the General Ledger. You’ll handle AP/AR processes, prepare quarterly budget amendments for the City Council, and ensure the city stays compliant with GAAP. Beyond the spreadsheets, you’ll be a key point of contact for the community, assisting taxpayers and providing front-counter support. We’re looking for a communicator who values high-level service and can work effectively with everyone from department heads to local residents.
- To be successful, you should have an associate's degree in Accounting or Finance (a bachelor’s is preferred) and at least two years of professional experience. While municipal experience and proficiency in BS&A software are big pluses, you definitely need to be a Microsoft Office pro with a solid grasp of fund accounting. If you are a Notary Public (or are willing to become one), that’s even better. If you’re ready to bring your skills to a professional office environment where your work truly counts, this is the move for you.
