GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
This safety sensitive (SS) position supervises the daily activities of route coordinators, transit drivers, and mechanics, maintaining the safe and proper operation of JETS fixed routes and paratransit pickups
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervises the work of the on-duty route coordinators, transit drivers, and mechanics. This duty is performed daily.
2. Schedules the assignments of route coordinators, transit drivers, and mechanics. Schedules substitute route coordinators and transit drivers in the event that an assigned coordinator or driver does not report for duty or cannot complete his/her assignment. This duty is performed daily.
3. Insures that all daily routes and paratransit pickups are run in a safe, professional and timely and manner. This duty is performed daily.
4. Assists with dispatching as needed. This duty is performed as needed.
5. Serves as JETS Safety Officer. This duty is performed daily.
6. Attends and assists in conducting regular employee meetings. This duty is performed weekly.
7. Directs employee training programs, including initial operator training. This duty is performed as needed.
8. Reviews transit driver’s daily reports and communicates operational issues to Transit Director and/or mechanic. This duty is performed daily.
9. Conducts frequent "real time” performance evaluations of transit drivers through independent observation and "ride checks". This duty is performed monthly.
10. Ensures the proper maintenance of shelters, bus stop signs, and other transit facilities and equipment. This duty is performed weekly.
11. Assists JETS management with planning, evaluation, and development of fixed routes and at scene of accidents. This duty is performed as needed.
12. Operates a mobile 2-way radio. This duty is performed as needed.
13. Adhere to all safety guidelines and report any unsafe condition to JETS Transit Director. This duty is performed as needed.
14. Operates a City vehicle in the performance of essential job functions. This duty is performed as needed.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned. This duty is performed as needed.
16. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 19 to 23 months related experience and/or training, and 12 to 18 months related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and understand general business/company related articles and professional journals; Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
