Correctional Officer
Duties:
- Maintain security and control within a correctional facility
- Conduct regular patrols and inspections to ensure the safety of inmates, staff, and visitors
- Monitor inmate activities and behavior, intervening as necessary to prevent disturbances or violence
- Enforce facility rules and regulations, ensuring compliance from inmates
- Conduct searches of cells, common areas, and individuals to detect contraband
- Escort inmates to and from various locations within the facility
- Respond to emergencies, including medical situations, fights, or fires
- Prepare written reports detailing incidents, violations, and inmate behavior
Skills:
- First Aid and CPR: Possess current certification in first aid and CPR to provide immediate medical assistance when needed
- CCTV Operation: Familiarity with closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems to monitor inmate activities and maintain security
- Report Writing: Ability to accurately document incidents, write reports, and maintain records according to established protocols
- Militaristic Discipline: Demonstrate discipline, attention to detail, and adherence to rules and procedures similar to those found in military environments
- Law Enforcement Knowledge: Understanding of laws, regulations, and procedures related to corrections and law enforcement
- Conflict Management: Proficient in deescalating conflicts and resolving disputes in a correctional setting
