Records Clerk

As a key member of our team, you will handle a variety of specialized clerical duties, including typing, transcribing, and filing dictated police reports, processing important documents, and assisting the public both in person and over the phone.

In this role, you will:

  • Accurately type and file reports, complaints, warrants, and other essential documents
  • Maintain our records management system, ensuring precise data entry and organization
  • Provide outstanding customer service to citizens with non-emergency inquiries

Minimum Position Requirements/Qualifications

What qualifications are necessary for the role?

To perform the essential duties of the position, the minimum education and prior experience required includes:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of general clerical experience and data entry/database support experience is required.
  • Access to personal or public transportation for job-related duties.
  • Must pass thorough background investigation that includes no felony convictions.
  • Prior experience in a law enforcement agency is desired but not required.

A combination of equivalent experience and/or education as determined by the Human Resources Office may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements.

What is the pay?

The starting hourly rate for this position is $23.72 ($49,337 annually); this is a non-exempt position. This position is also eligible for annual economic adjustments and performance-based adjustments, as approved by the City Council.

When factoring in the benefits alongside your annual salary, the overall compensation rate could range from $63,389 to $79,829 per year, contingent upon the selected benefits and coverage types.

Furthermore, the City of Janesville strives to ease the transition between employers by minimizing the stress associated with gaps in insurance coverage. For new hires before the 15th of the month, medical, dental, and vision insurance become effective on the date of hire. For those hired on or after the 15th of the month, these benefits kick in on the 1st of the following month.

NOTE: Part-time employees are eligible for a smaller benefits package based on the number of hours they work in a week.
