The Payroll Division of Finance: The City of Jacksonville Payroll Division is located at the City Hall in downtown Jacksonville. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll for the City's employees in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
General Description: The City of Jacksonville is looking for a Payroll Technician to perform intermediate technical work in the processing and maintenance of payroll deductions. Maintenance includes creating and maintaining physical and digital files and records. All work is performed under the regular supervision of the Finance Manager.
The salary posted is the full salary range for this position. The starting salary is expected to be in the range of $51,028.84 - $66,337.50 depending on qualifications.
Preparing payroll; maintaining payroll records and files; preparing payroll reports. (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. - Ensures employees are paid timely by completing the production of payroll.
- Maintains payroll information by administering the collection, calculation and entry of payroll data.
- Reviews and updates payroll records and system by reviewing job titles and employee movement.
- Ensures payroll liabilities are accurately determined by completing calculations of employee payroll taxes and adjustments before taxes.
- Prepares and transmits contribution data for the City’s 401k and 457 deferred compensation plans.
- Reconciles biweekly and monthly payroll accruals.
- Maintains benefit and payroll tax records; records and tracks deductions.
- Prepares a variety of periodic payroll reports for local, state and federal agencies.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in accounting AND at least one year of experience involving the maintenance of payroll and financial records.
General knowledge of payroll systems, state, federal and local laws and regulations and the associated methodology, processes and terminology; general knowledge of bookkeeping terminology and methods and accounting theory and principles; general knowledge of office procedures, practices and equipment; skill in the use of office automation equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public; ability to follow detailed and written instructions; ability to prepare financial records and reports.
