JOB SUMMARY

This position performs responsible unskilled work scheduling and coordinating tee times, managing the pace of play, and providing customer service to golfers; does related work as required.  Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Pro Shop Lead.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: 

  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending terrain, ladders, stairs, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Miscellaneous: Reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and extreme heat.

  • Assists golfers with acquiring and meeting prescheduled starting times and maintaining golf course play.
  • Greets golfers, schedules tee times for golfers without previously arranged times, and ensures that golfers meet scheduled starting times.
  • Monitors play on the course to ensure orderly and timely flow, advises slow players, and rearranges players on course as needed.
  • Uses available programs and resources to monitor golfers and/or equipment and takes necessary action to resolve issues.
  • Assists with bringing out golf carts.
  • Prepares tee time sheets, maintains user log and time play initiated, and assists with arranging tee times by telephone at designated hours.
  • Answers golfer’s questions about rules, regulations, and procedures of the golf course. 
  • Enforces club rules regarding play, equipment, coolers, dress, etc.
  • Assists in pro shop or cart barn as required.
  • Picks up paper and debris on public property.
  • Assists with equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Performs custodial and building and grounds maintenance work.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Education and Experience:

Must be at least 16 years of age and have knowledge of the game of golf and dealing with the public. 

Special Qualifications:

A driver’s license valid in the State of Florida. Must be willing and able to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • General knowledge of the basic rules of golf.
  • Thorough knowledge of course rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to interact positively with customers and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions. 
  • Ability to work holidays and weekends.
  • Ability to be alert to traffic and aware of both safe and unsafe procedures and situations that may occur or be present while operating a City equipment or City vehicle. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other personnel.
