Maintenance Worker I-This is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned within the series. Employees in this class work under immediate supervision. Since this class is typically used as a training, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience.
Maintenance Worker I- Receives immediate supervision from an assigned supervisor. Exercises no supervision.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUT I ES -Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
When assigned to any position in the class:
Operate hand and power tools including air compressor, welding torch, grinder, grease machine, chainsaw, weed-eater, riding and push lawn mower, paint machine, pole chipper, and a stump grinder.
Perform additional construction and maintenance tasks such as concrete work, truck driving, asphalt spreading, jackhammering, and a variety of minor repair activities.
Participate in cleaning job site; remove refuse and debris; cut and remove foliage.
May work evenings and weekends as required by staffing shortages or emergency conditions. When assigned to Streets & Drained:
Secure and partition off work areas with traffic signs, cones and barricades; flag and direct traffic around work areas.
Clear drainage channels of refuse and debris; clean road shoulders.
Provide assistance in mud jacking activities including drilling holes in street surfaces for injection; plug exposed holes with cement.
Saw and jackhammer paved surfaces to perform necessary repairs; set forms for concrete; finish concrete and pull forms.
Tar road surface to be repaired and tack edges; prepare and shovel mix into repair area and sweep patch for rolling.
Maintain street right of way and medians; remove litter and cut grass. Clean city streets, gutters and alleyways along assigned routes.

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
