JOB DESCRIPTION

Name: Utility Operator Department: Water/Wastewater

Title: Water /Wastewater Plt. Operator FLSA: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Water/ Wastewater Superintendent

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under general supervision, operates equipment, machinery and related collection, treatment and distribution facilities used in the municipal water supply system, water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant and water distribution system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Tools used: Lab equipment, backhoe, power washer, jackhammer, weedeater, mower, shovel, probe rod, wrenches and other hand tools, meter reading equipment.

Checks flows, cleans bar screens, lab duties, checks water towers, repairs water breaks, reads meters, checks pump stations, set manhole castings, and other duties as assigned

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Graduation from high school or GED equivalency. Ability to become certified as a grade (1) in water treatment, water distribution, and wastewater treatment pursuant to I.D.N.R. requirements within 12 months. Ability to obtain a grade (2) in water treatment, water distribution, and wastewater treatment within 3 years. Desire to pursue further grades, obtain wastewater collection operator license, and attend necessary trainings to perform the function of the job.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Physical Requirements

Moderate physical strength requirements involving the moving, lifting, pushing, carrying and pulling of objects weighing 50 lb. or more.

Environmental Adaptability

Both inside and outside work performed in the plants/premises under undesirable circumstances. Outside work is subject to exposure to noise, vibration, fumes, odors and gases and subsequent temperature changes. Moderate exposure to such hazards as moving parts and toxic agents, climbing into wells, filtering and holding structures maintaining body equilibrium, crouching, reaching (horizontal/vertical).

Compensation

Pay will be based on experience. Incentives for obtaining grades higher than required.

Full Time position Monday thru Friday 7:00AM to 3:30PM with some flexibility.
